Open Letter: Let’s Unite – Working Together for a Stronger Ruby & Rails Community in Vancouver
Posted by Gerald on July 17, 2007
Hello Nathaniel,
This is an open letter to invite you to join the Vancouver Ruby & Rails community and shutting down and merging your VanRuby.com site, mailing list and meetup.com listing with the Vancouver Ruby Brigade.
Let’s unite and work together for a stronger Ruby & Rails community in Vancouver.
Your “community” sites seem only setup not to help and serve the local community but – if I dare to say – to promote your Rails workshops and conferences and drum up some business for yourself.
I applaud and welcome your efforts to organize Rails workshops and conferences and market your Rails services. However, I and (I guess many others might too) strongly disapprove that you mislead Ruby & Rails newbies in and around Vancouver that your sites help and serve the local Ruby & Rails community.
For an example, lets have a look at your VanRuby.com site. All the postings are yours and they promote your workshops and conferences. Contrast this with the Vancouver Ruby Brigade Forum. Again let’s have another look at your VanRuby meetup site and – surprise, surprise – all the meetups and events organized are yours.
Again, I applaud and welcome your efforts to organize Rails workshops and conferences but please stop misleading Vancouverites that your sites are non-profit, volunteer organized community efforts.
Again I invite you to work together for a stronger Ruby & Rails community in Vancouver by shutting down and merging your VanRuby.com site, mailinglist and meetup.com listing with the Vancouver Ruby Brigade.
Cheers,
Gerald
